Elderly woman robbed of wedding rings in Corigliano Rossano: A deceptive scam

A bitter scam has shocked a seventy-year-old from Corigliano Rossano, who was robbed of her precious wedding rings, symbols of an eternal bond with her deceased husband.

The episode happened yesterday, when the old woman, while walking calmly, was approached by a car with two men of foreign origin on board. The two stopped next to her asking for information on how to reach a nearby destination, pretending to be lost.

The woman, with an open heart and a desire to help, stopped to give them directions. While they were talking, the criminals noticed that the lady was wearing two wedding rings on her finger. Intrigued, they asked why she was wearing two rings. The woman emotionally explained that one of her wedding rings belonged to her late husband, who always carried it with him as a sign of eternal love.

The scammers, taking advantage of his good faith, asked to see the rings up close. The woman, without suspecting anything, took off her wedding rings and gave them to the two men. These, with a quick and deceptive move, wrapped the rings in a piece of paper, returning them apparently intact.

Only after the criminals had left did the old woman discover to her dismay that the rings in the package were counterfeits. Realizing she had been robbed, the woman immediately went to the Carabinieri to report the incident.

The police immediately started investigations to identify those responsible for the scam and recover the real wedding rings. It is hoped that surveillance cameras in the area will provide useful clues in tracing the culprits.

Local authorities urge citizens to report any suspicious activity and maintain a high level of vigilance to prevent similar scam incidents.
