bus on fire, the vehicle had already been reported “dangerous”

The company secretaries of Filt-Cgil, Uil Trasporti and Faisa Confail report a serious accident which occurred on 16 May in via Trinitapoli. During the service of line 24, the social bus 335 caught fire while traveling along the road towards the Cara of Borgo Mezzanone. There were some passengers on board and, only thanks to a stroke of luck and the promptness of the driver, the accident did not cause tragic consequences.

The accident could easily have turned into a tragedy with irreparable outcomes. “It is unacceptable that a bus intended for passenger transport has such defects and that the company did not intervene promptly despite previous reports on the danger of the vehicle. This bus, one of the oldest in circulation, had already been reported as potentially dangerous and taken to the workshop several times, but evidently not enough to avoid this very serious accident”, say the unions.

The unions continue: “In light of what happened, we urge the registration of the new buses already purchased, regular and scrupulous maintenance of all existing vehicles, with particular attention to the older ones and those that have already suffered reports of problems. We also ask for the preparation of an extraordinary emergency plan to better manage any problems that may occur on the buses”.

They conclude by recalling that they have already urged the company to put the safety of passengers and operators at the center of its priorities, adopting all the necessary measures to prevent accidents.
