Luigi Silvestri, Cesena’s strong point, as well as cousin of the ‘Defense Minister’ Giuseppe Prestia, is a happy boy. He was one of the protagonists of Cavalluccio’s extraordinary season with three goals scored in 37 appearances and several high-level performances, he won promotion to Serie B for the first time and in June he will become the father for the first time of a child who his partner Beatrice will give birth in Palermo where Luigi was born on 22 January 1993.
When and why did you begin to love the game of football?
“My father Mauro played football for fun and had enrolled both my brother Amedeo, who is a year older than me, and myself in the football school. Dad was proud of the fact that we could become footballers and he assisted and helped us like unfortunately grandfather had not been able to do with him.” Did your brother continue to play?
“Of course but always in D and today he plays in Andria”.
Who was the person you owe the most for your career?
“More than a person, I say my family. My father supported us thanks to his work, my mother Loredana took us and picked us up from training and both of them never allowed us to give up and were two points of reference Then there was my grandmother, a fundamental person for me, who passed away in 2015, and to whom I made the promise that one day I would play in Serie B.”
Which team did you support as a kid?
“My father was a Juventus player and initially to emulate him I supported Juventus, but then when I wore the Palermo youth shirt my passion became the rosanero”.
Who was his idol?
“He has always been Fabio Cannavaro, an example and model of a player.”
And now who is your point of reference in the role?
“I admired Puyol, but he stopped too. Now I really like Rudiger.”
On Sunday you will play the last match of the season, the second Super Cup match hosting Juve Stabia.
“The atmosphere in which we are training and the way in which we are preparing for the match are the same as always. Even after the mathematical promotion obtained in the victory against Pescara we set ourselves the objective of reaching the goal of points which we have equaled and now that We have the chance to lift another trophy, we certainly won’t give up.”
All you need to do is equalize.
“We will go out on the pitch as usual to win. It would be dangerous if we were satisfied with a draw.”
What was the most exciting moment of the championship? “The end of the match at the Manuzzi against Pescara when we had the mathematical certainty of promotion. I won the D and C2, but I had never obtained a promotion to B and it happened precisely on the day in which at the stadium there ‘they were also my father, my mother and my brother. And then this is a magical year because in June my first child will be born. And his name seems written in destiny…”
That means?
“Beatrice and I decided to call him Edoardo and who scored the promotional goal? Pierozzi who is called Edoardo and wears the number 24, like 2024 is the year my son will be born. Signs of destiny”.
Now there will be the adventure in B.
“It will be a more difficult and tougher championship, but I believe that with daily work, application, sacrifices and mentality we will be able to have our say. As far as I’m concerned, I’m already excited at the idea of competing in such an important championship “. If you were to think back to this season in 20 years, what will be the most vivid memory that comes to mind?
“The emotions we gave to our people and our wonderful fans, emotions to tell and pass on. We players live for this.”
