Scammers away from Campania to the province of Latin Looking for elderly people from pluck. The method? With the classic mirror scam perpetrated against elderly motorists convinced to pay for having caused non-existent damage. But the many cases reported (at least seven) and the excessive confidence acquired by the gang allowed the police to track down the criminals and arrest them.
Caught the group of accomplices
Five members of the Campania group identified in Latina, four men and a woman between 40 and 55 years old domiciled in Afragola and Nettuno, belonging to the same Roma family – held responsible for the scams carried out in the Sermoneta area – who, since 2022, have simulated road accidents and demanded money from the victims to avoid possible trouble with the insurance companies. In one case, for which the accusation of extortion was also triggered, they managed to have 4 thousand euros delivered.
Even the phone call to the fake police
Well-tested mechanism, always the same. The itinerant and well-organised gang rented a car and set off towards the province of Latina where they identified the victims. By throwing a stone, contact with the target was simulated and the consequent breaking of the mirror of the rented car. At this point the group pretended to contact the police, but on the other end of the phone there was an accomplice who advised them to end the matter in a good-natured way to avoid fines. Hence the request for money, which was quickly pocketed, and then the escape. In this way the scammers have raked in thousands of eurosbut the scam was stopped and those responsible were identified: three ended up in prison, and two were reported and on the loose
