Andrea Russo presents his latest work “Beyond” during the evening dedicated to the preview of the director’s new short Rossano B. Maniscalchi entitled “It’s not dark yet”which deals with the issue of violence against women, a story of all-female solidarity.
The protagonists of the film are women, who speak to other women, through example and story. What is created is a common conscience, which embraces different identities, and which pushes them to save themselves from the darkness of a limiting and oppressive culture.
The work of the artist from Cirò Marina, oil on canvas, entitled Beyond, just like Maniscalchi’s short, will accompany the register in its future events.
The protagonist is a world-renowned art and fashion photographer and award-winning director. He is shooting a film in the picturesque town of Comacchio (also called “Little Venice”), in the beautiful Italian province of Ferrara. Despite his professional satisfaction and successes, and despite the admiration of women, he feels that his life is incomplete. One thing is missing…
The models he films are omnipresent…
They symbolize all the temptations he has experienced throughout his artistic and non-artistic existence – they constantly tempt him and cause a powerful inner turmoil in him.
The director finds himself, almost by magic, taking stock of his existence up to this moment, an existence that has given him many satisfactions, many adventures, many temptations, some repressed and others not. But what has always been missing is the true love that can complete it.
Thus, he finds himself inside a forest that metaphorically symbolizes his existence and (perhaps) also his future.
There he encounters and relives his past, his present and his immediate future. Among these images, a “special” woman appears.
The other women in his life try to seduce him to distance him from the only woman who represents true love. It is she who, thanks to her love for him, will drive away all the temptations personified in the models. In the end, he rediscovers his true self and discovers the path that will unite him with his beloved, the woman he has always sought without knowing it.
The two lovers kiss and are “reborn” to a new life.
«I met Rossano – Andrea Russo tells us – during the Florence Biennale 2023 and from there we decided to do some work together in the future. The main theme of both is Woman, so we found ourselves let’s say… After a few months the work “Beyond” was born and it was a great pleasure to present it at Sina Villa Medici, in Florence. In the near future there will be other good projects where there will also be my participation.”
