The ten Atlas cedars in Piazza Europa will be felled. These are the first rumors to leak a few minutes before the start of the commission he will present the new redevelopment project of the squareand the further intervention at the Stura lowlands for the construction of a new car park at the head of the Campidoglio.
Confirmations from the agronomist Ettore Zauli who viewed the project and other members of the majority, who however briefly underline: «More plants will be planted and the greenery will increase». The debate began at 6pm, with an explanation from the technicians from the Ai Engineering studio in Turin.
The design engineer, Sabina Carucci, explains: «We want to give character to this square, which is not just a place to sit, but to live. Hence the need to reconstruct the main axis of Corso Nizza arises. An important double row of trees that helps to reconstitute the main urban axis of the city and will contribute to giving greater longevity to the square. Towards the West side we have created areas with flexible equipment. The east side, which today is only a car park, has been the subject of two interventions: one with a greater presence of greenery, two with the preparation to be used either for temporary events or as an extension of the pedestrian spaces”.
The central stretch of Corso Nizza will be raised, «with a decrease in vehicle speed which will also improve traffic noise conditions. We have movable movable seats for events, but also more “intimate” ones, a central fountain, outdoor spaces, a play area equipped for children, play paths.”
And the description continues: «There are also relaxation areas surrounded by greenery, a covered crossing on Corso Giolitti, shading systems to reduce the perceived temperature and take advantage of seats equipped with electrical sockets to be used also for studying outdoors, connections Internet, wifi.”
