The book will be presented on Friday 17 May at the Cinema Méliès in Perugia, at 5.30 pm The secret of steel. Film Dictionary of “Conan the Barbarian”, written by Fabio Melelli and Antonio Tentori, published by Shatter Edizioni. The book, starting from John Milius’ masterpiece Conan the Barbarian meticulously reconstructs an entire filmography – with protagonists indomitable and solitary warriors, courageous Amazons, princesses in danger and ineffable sorcerers – referable to the popular genre of heroic fantasy, listing dozens of titles, directors and actors. An opportunity to reflect on how much the imagination of the writer Robert E. Howard has “overflowed” onto the big screen, inspiring directors of all latitudes, including the Italians Lucio Fulci, Joe D’Amato, Luigi Cozzi, Umberto Lenzi.
Fabio Melelli, professor of Italian cinema in the world at the University for Foreigners of Perugia and of history of cinema and video at the Academy of Fine Arts of Perugia, has published over forty books; Antonio Tentori, alongside his work as a film critic and writer, has been successfully working as a screenwriter for years, having collaborated with directors such as Dario Argento, Lucio Fulci, Bruno Mattei and Joe D’Amato. Melelli and Tentori have already published the book together in 2020 The cat in the brain of Lucio FulciBloodbuster Edizioni, monograph on a famous cult movie by the famous director of thriller and horror films.
The presentation of the book, conducted and moderated by Giacomo Calzoni, writer and film critic, author of monographs on Dario Argento and Steven King and collaborator of “Nocturno” and “Sentieri savage”, will be followed by the screening of a surprise film that will not disappoint certainly fans of the genre celebrated by the volume. Entrance to the presentation – and to the subsequent screening – is free.
