May 16, 2024

Following the release of Francesco Stabile’s first unreleased album, Via Crucis 1856 – a rare example of nineteenth-century sacred music – the Francesco Stabile Musical Association and the Potenza Library Center return to investigate the mysterious figure of the Potenza composer Francesco Stabile with a study seminar on his work.

Marco Ranaldi, musicologist and President of the Francesco Stabile Musical Association of Potenza states:

“This conference was born following the recording of the album Via Crucis 1856 and aims to historically place the work of Francesco Stabile and his figure as a composer.

There will be no shortage of references to the great popular sacred literature which has had an enormous diffusion in Basilicata over time.

In interventions we will also delve into the role of Nicola Antonio Zingarelli (Stabile’s teacher who was able to give great ease to the composition of sacred music in Naples) for place the figure of the Lucanian composer between Naples and Potenza, which were his places of choice“.

The seminar entitled Francesco Stabile between Naples and Potenza will be held Wednesday 21 May, at 4.30 pm at the Potenza Library Centre.

After the institutional greetings from Luigi Catalani (Director of the National Library of Potenza), the following will speak:

  • Paolo Conte (University of Basilicata),
  • Valeria Verrastro (Deputation of Homeland History for Lucania),
  • Vincenzo De Gregorio (former Rector of the Pontifical Institute of Sacred Music),
  • Marco Ranaldi (Gesualdo da Venosa Conservatory of Potenza),
  • Graziano Accinni (Musicologist).

The project of the Francesco Stabile Musical Association to raise awareness of the figure Stabile and his composition work will continue with the revision, transcription and recording of all the sacred works that he composed which will soon be published in a single volume.
