On the afternoon of May 9th, the Carabinieri of the Acate station intervened following a report received by the Operations Center regarding a family dispute. The military, who arrived on site, learned that the dispute arose between cohabitants for trivial reasons in which the man, an Albanian citizen, had attacked his partner with threats, kicks and punches. The workers immediately guaranteed assistance to the victim who, transported to the “Guzzardi” hospital in Vittoria, was subsequently discharged with a 30-day prognosis.
The military then formalized the woman’s declarations and activated the procedures for the protection of women victims of violence, as well as referred her partner to the Judicial Authority for the crime of domestic abuse against his partner.
On the morning of May 10th, in Vittoria, the Carabinieri of the local station implemented the precautionary measure of placing a man from Vittoria under house arrest as sufficient evidence was acquired to hold him responsible for crimes against the family against of the ex-partner.
The measure originates from events that occurred in November 2023 due to mistreatment in the family towards the ex-partner through threats and oppressive behavior even in the presence of the minor daughter. Following these events, the Carabinieri collected elements that allowed the Judicial Authority to issue, in the month of February approximately, a ban on approaching the victim with control using an electronic bracelet.
The execution of this provision was not in fact applicable since the man resided in a home that did not guarantee the minimum distance from the victim required by law. Therefore, the Judicial Authority, informed of the impossibility of carrying out the aforementioned measure, deemed it necessary to issue the precautionary measure of house arrest to protect the victim.
The military, having tracked down the man at his home, accompanied him to their offices for the ritual proceedings, notifying him of the AG’s provision and then subjecting him to the measure of house arrest in a home far from that of his ex-partner.
