Bari, 16 May 2024 – A man 59 year old, construction worker with no criminal record from Canosa di Puglia, was arrested this morning on charges of having the 63-year-old physiotherapist killed Mauro Di Giacomolast December 18th in the Poggiofranco district of Bari.
According to what has been ascertained by the investigations, there are some motives for the murder grudges related to alleged injuries that the professional would have caused to one of the suspect’s daughters who, in 2020, had filed a civil lawsuit against the victim for professional liability, accusing him of having caused her permanent personal injuries, during a physiotherapy session, which took place in September 2019.
Di Giacomo, who appeared during the trial, he had denied his responsibility, as well as the availability to reach any form of transaction. The incident would have caused the suspect to rise up hatred and resentment towards the physiotherapistuntil, on the evening of December 18, after some inspections carried out already in the previous month of February, he completed the plan to kill the 63-year-old.
According to what was reconstructed by the investigators of the flying squad, led by the manager Filippo Portoghese and coordinated by the prosecutor Ciro Angelillis of the Bari prosecutor’s office, Di Giacomo on the evening of 18 December, at approximately 8.25pm, after finishing work in the private studio near via Amendola , drove his car and returned home, to via Tauro, and parked. His killer was there waiting for him. He approached him, and after a brief altercation, he fired seven shots, with a 7.65 caliber, mortally wounding him with 5 bullets. He then attacked the victim, hitting her several times on the head with the butt of the gun, and then drove away at full speed in a black small car, losing track of her.
To the alleged perpetrator of the murder, in addition to premeditation, it comes the aggravating circumstance of cruelty was contested.
