Campania Region – Between this weekend and the beginning of next week a new unstable phase begins but temperatures will remain mild.

While the North experiences conditions of intense bad weather and deals with storms, flooding and flooding, in these very hours the northern offshoots of the African anticyclone reach the southern regions, giving rise to the first advection of hot air of the season also in Campania .

In detail, on Sunday, Thursday 16 May, maximum temperatures will rise towards 30-32 degrees in the flat internal sectors of the Caserta area, in the Piana di Nola and Sarno and between the provinces of Avellino and Benevento; mercury column also rising sharply in Naples and Salerno with daytime peaks around 27-29°C. The masses of hot air inflowing from North Africa will be accompanied, at times, by the transit of sterile high and stratiform clouds and large concentrations of suspended Saharan dust, with a sky with a typical opaque and milky appearance. A moderate temperature drop (in the order of 3-6°C in daytime values) is expected as early as Friday, especially along the coasts, due to the combined effect of a partial weakening of the subtropical promontory and the return of Tyrrhenian breezes.

Between the weekend and the start of next week, Campania, therefore between Saturday 18 and Tuesday 21 May, will find itself in a middle ground between the humid Atlantic currents – still particularly active in the Centre-North – and the flow of warm air linked to the outpost of the subtropical anticyclone, whose highs will tend to migrate, along an oblique axis, between Tunisia, Libya and the southern Balkans. An uncertain and fickle phase will begin, still very mild everywhere with highs in the order of 25-28°C and characterized by the transit on several occasions of medium-high cloudiness entering from the lower Tyrrhenian Sea, which at times could give rise to some brief rain showers and thunderstorms; it will be a scattered, irregular and disorganized phenomenology, which will probably prove more insistent between Avellino, Cilento and internal sectors close to the Apennines.
