FLORENCE – The Tuscany Region’s commitment continues, as set out in the relevant Serological Surveillance Plan, to monitor the risk of spreading bluetongue, a viral disease that affects farmed ruminants, in particular sheep.
With a council resolution, proposed by the vice president and councilor for agri-food, approximately 30 thousand euros were allocated to support farmers who make livestock available to the health authorities as “sentinel” to check for possible viral circulation.
The intervention consists of a contribution – under the “de minimis” regime – aimed at compensating on a flat-rate basis the costs and inconveniences borne by the breeder for the blood sampling to which the animals are subjected.
The councilor declared that it is essential to act to protect the quality and well-being of the Tuscan livestock heritage, improving the level of health safety and also with this provision the Region supports an important sector of the agri-food sector.
Agro-zootechnical companies with sheep, goat, cattle and buffalo breeding that make available to the health authority a number of animals adequate to the needs of the serological surveillance plan, as established by the competent local health authority, can access the benefits of the provision.
Applications for access to the intervention must be submitted within the timescales set out in the outgoing announcement, using the Artea information system.
