New sewage system in via Messina Marine

“The start of the construction site for new sewage system in via Messina Marine – said the mayor of Palermo – it is the result of the commitment and determination of this Administration in overcoming the procedural obstacles that have prevented its realization in about ten years. For this I thank, in particular, the work of the offices of the Department of Public Works. This is a work that, on the one hand, will provide a response to the users of neighborhoods of Romagnolo, Bandita, Acqua dei Corsari and Sperone and, on the other, it has another great environmental objective which points to make it swimmable again a large strip of the sea of Palermo, that of South Coast”.

The works will cover a total of approximately 4.5 kilometres, with the creation of a separate system network for white and black water serving the southern area of the Sicilian capital, an underground lifting system and structures for discharging the water into the sea. treated white. Throughout the construction sites, the adoption of design solutions aimed at minimize the impact of the work on road traffic.

The sea of the South Coast will breathe again

“It is an important day for Palermo – commented the municipal councilor for public works, Totò Orlando – because with the works of the new sewerage network in via Messina Marine a public work is being launched thanks to which the sea of Romagnolo, of Bandita, of Acqua dei Corsari and Sperone will finally breathe again. This is the first real environmental remediation intervention on the southern coast of the city.”

“Through the collection of rainwater – added Orlando – and the treatment of sewage in the purifier, the new sewerage network will allow us to eliminate ‘discharges into the sea’: once the works are completed, the objective is to make a long stretch of coast suitable for swimming again. This public work, the process of which was started years ago and, after a long stop, we have now unblocked, concerns an important area of the city that has been neglected for too long, if not completely forgotten”.

“We are giving concreteness – concluded Orlando – to the Lagalla Administration’s program which, among the various points, envisages the recovery and valorisation of areas that have enormous potential, not only for housing but also economic and tourism such as, precisely, that of the South coast of the city”.
