Good response from users last Sunday for the Frecce Tricolori event
Last Sunday in Trani, on the occasion of the 2024 Air Show, the train proved to be a sustainable and effective means of transport to reach the event location, thanks to the collaboration between the Puglia Region and the local public transport (TPL) railway companies . The event saw the performance of the Frecce Tricolori, attracting a large number of spectators who preferred the train to avoid traffic and the search for parking.
The Regional Department for Transport and Sustainable Mobility financed six extraordinary Trenitalia connections on the Bari-Barletta route for the event, adding them to the 28 trains already in circulation on the Bari-Foggia line. The POP trains, with a capacity of 500 seats each, many of them in double composition, offered a total of 1004 seats.
User feedback has been extremely positive. Between 11am and 5pm, around 5340 passengers got off at Trani station, while almost 5000 people left the city by train after 5.30pm. Many of the trains departing after 5pm, both towards Foggia and Bari, were almost completely full, with the number of passengers in some cases exceeding 1100.
“We are faced with important numbers that demonstrate that the people of Puglia and tourists have appreciated the proposal, putting aside the skepticism towards the means of collective public transport,” commented the Transport councilor. “This feedback encourages us to continue on this path and strengthen similar initiatives. With the arrival of the summer season, full of public events and demonstrations throughout the region, we are already negotiating with rail transport companies to add extraordinary trains targeted at individual events, such as the international diving competition in Polignano a Mare at the end of June to make them more accessible.
