L’Local Public Transport Agency for the Como, Lecco and Varese basin ever closer to development projects in border territories.

This is what emerges from the support provided to two Interreg projectsone concerning the provinces of Como, Lecco and Sondrio, and the other the provinces of Varese, Como and the Canton of Ticino.

The first project to which the Local Public Transport Agency of the Como, Lecco and Varese basin gave its support is called “D.Here-D.There – Data Quality for Discovering Local Amenities”, and is promoted by the Polytechnic of Milan – Polo di Lecco, by the Provinces of Como, Lecco and Sondrio and by the Metropolitan City of Milan, as well as by SUPSI.

The second project is named “SMILE – Strategy for Light Mobility in the Province of Varese, Como and Canton Ticino” has the Province of Varese as the Italian leader and the Republic and Canton of Ticino as the Swiss leader.

In both cases, the s are addressedchallenges posed by mass tourism in border regions between Italy and Switzerland, aiming to provide local administrations with effective tools for monitoring and managing decision-making processes, with the aim of promoting tourism sustainability and improving local attractiveness by managing resources and services effectively. A project that represents an innovative and integrated approach to tourism, transport and local economic development, without forgetting the beyond 75,000 daily transits of workers across the border.

Furthermore, in favor of these movements, the Interreg SMISTO project – Development of integrated and sustainable mobility between Ticino and Lombardy – which had indicated and shared sustainable local public transport routes for the benefit of workers, for whom the ongoing contacts with the competent authorities of the two countries regarding “cabotage”, i.e. the possibility of providing service indifferently in the two countries, will be able to provide a further and definitive development of cross-border mobility between Ticino and Lombardy.

“We consider the two initiatives consistent with our objectives – declares the President of the Agency for Local Public Transport of the Como, Lecco, Varese basin, engineer Giovanni Stefano Galli – and therefore we have expressed our interest and support believing that the project results may have positive effects on the management of mobility in the areas of competence. It is in our interest to facilitate dialogue and collaboration with the network of local operators and to encourage the dissemination of results”.
