Even though it was past mid-May, part of Italy was brought to its knees by bad weather and rain. But will there be an improvement? The weather update is provided by Paolo Sottocorona, La7 meteorologist, who connects during the May 16th episode of Omnibus and paints a picture of the situation: “The overall structure of the clouds of that disturbance that entered in recent days, especially in the north, it seems to have lost much of its strength. But in reality the models tell us that we still have 24 hours in which the situation could certainly still be very serious, very intense.”
The weather expert then moves on to the day-by-day forecasts: “The forecast for today, Thursday 16 May, says that very light rains are expected in the south, especially between Sicily and the south of the peninsula and there the rains were needed, so they were few and far between.” welcome. In the north there is an area between Piedmont and Lombardy, and especially the north-east, where very intense phenomena are still expected, they will tend to attenuate as the situation changes, but the alert must certainly be maintained for today. Then, just past the northern Apennines, we arrive in Tuscany with some light rain, Umbria, Marche, but from here on down there are certainly no phenomena to arouse attention or concern. Tomorrow, Friday 17 May, there will be an attenuation. There is still some phenomenon between Piedmont, upper Lombardy, the north-east, but also some beautiful clearings in the plains, so the weather is certainly on another level. In the center and south there are large areas of clear weather and few clouds. On Saturday 18 May there is again some uncertainty in the south, uncertainty in the sense that there could be some rain in Calabria, on the Ionian side, the model also indicates some slightly more intense phenomena, but overall they are phenomena rather weak, rather bland. Even in the north, in Piedmont, there is some isolated moderate rainfall, but it’s really a different story.”
Sottocorona concludes his daily appointment with a focus on the maximum temperatures expected for today: “Obviously they represent the situation. In the north, but also in Tuscany, the values are relatively low, not cold but certainly very low values. Then in the center and south we have higher temperatures, even in Puglia it could reach 30 degrees. In isolation, however, the values are decidedly high. The trend in the next 24 hours is an increase in the north, due to the attenuation of this bad weather, therefore temperatures tend to rise, slightly decreasing in the center and south where today, also thanks to that rather hot south-east wind, the values are quite high. Tomorrow they will all settle down and tend to stabilize at normal values for the season.”
