Sardinia’s livestock farms have embraced the pilot project “Sardinia Farmer’s Job – Let’s grow work”, promoted by Coldiretti Sardegna together with the Rural District of Barbagia, the Ministry of Labor and the Embassy of Kyrgyzstan. With 25 companies expressing interest in participating, the project’s initial objectives have already been achieved. A meeting in Ollolai marked a crucial moment of discussion to evaluate the progress of the program and outline the next steps.

Today’s meeting was attended by the agro-pastoral companies of Sardinia together with the project managers, including the director of Coldiretti Sardinia, Luca Saba, who illustrated the path taken so far and the current situation. Also present were the new president of the Rural District, Michele Virdis, the leaders of Coldiretti Nuoro-Ogliastra Leonardo Salis and Alessandro Serra, as well as the mayors of some of the entities involved. The project aims to combat the shortage of manpower in the agro-pastoral sector of Sardinia and the depopulation of the island territories. A memorandum between Coldiretti and Kyrgyzstan has already been signed, with Kyrgyz workers interested in the pilot project. The president of Coldiretti Sardinia, Battista Cualbu, underlines the challenges of Sardinian agricultural businesses due to the lack of qualified manpower, which negatively affects the costs of management. Luca Saba, director of Coldiretti Sardinia, highlights the risk of closure of many pastoral enterprises due to the aging of the workforce. Mayors and companies have shown great appreciation and interest in the project, which includes next steps such as the selection of Kyrgyz personnel and further meetings with the Ministry of Labour.
