The bad weather is also bringing Veneto to its knees. Starting yesterday evening and especially during the night there were torrential rains and intense showers which hit the plain causing flooding and serious damage to road traffic. Traffic is in fact severely compromised with several roads still submerged in water.
The firefighters have received hundreds of emergency calls and have already responded to over 300 critical situations as of last night.
The President of the Veneto Region, Luca Zaia, will hold a press conference at the civil protection headquarters in Marghera to take stock of the situation.
Fire brigade teams are active throughout the region to deal with the consequences of this bad weather, with numerous interventions required due to flooding, landslides, and unsafe trees.
In the province of Verona, 60 interventions were carried out for water damage, with particular attention to the San Bonifacio and Soave areas.
In Padua firefighters responded to 60 emergency calls, with the municipalities of Montagnana and Casale particularly affected. A landslide interrupted traffic on the road behind the Monselice fortress.
In Vicenza, 71 interventions have been carried out due to landslides and damage caused by rainwater, while another 35 are pending. Landslides and landslides have also been reported in the upper Vicenza area.
In other provinces the Fire Brigade responded to: 26 calls in Rovigo, 15 in Treviso, 52 in Venice. There are currently a further 12 requests for intervention in the queue.
The rescue device has been reinforced with additional personnel recalled to duty. The situation remains critical and the authorities recommend maximum prudence and caution to the population, especially in the areas hit hardest by the bad weather.
