Close to the Nicolosi district, the ordinance of the Mayor of Latina, Matilde Celentano, on the sale and consumption of drinks comes into force
Not that the presence of the State in the “Nicolosi” neighborhood has not been felt in recent years. Above all, the operation of the Capitoline District Anti-Mafia Directorate and Latina Flying Squad, called “Alba Pontina”, which eradicated the presence of the Di Silvio clan, led by Armando Di Silvio known as “Lallà”, who had put North African drug dealing under control, even before under the aegis of the Travali clan. And again, always at the State Police, with a complex action which saw the use of undercover agents, always aimed at drug dealing. Both trials resulted in convictions – Alba Pontina and the anti-drug operation against North African pushers.
Not only. For several months, numerous law enforcement operations, the so-called “High Impact”, have patrolled the neighborhood far and wide.
Yet, this seems not to have been enough, if only last February the residents of the Nicolosi neighborhood, complete with signature collection, presented a complaint to the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Latina to denounce the situation of degradation that afflicts the neighborhood.
Even the Municipality of Latina wants to do something. In this context, fits the ordinance signed by the Mayor of Latina, Matilde Celentano, who issued, yesterday, May 15th, an ordinance that prohibits the consumption of alcoholic beverages and spirits in the streets, squares and gardens in the Nicolosi district. , parks, public areas or areas open to public transit and their vicinity, with the exception of areas granted by the Administration or otherwise authorized (for example on the occasion of occupations with tables adjacent to public establishments) and without prejudice to mere transport to access private homes included in the streets affected by this provision.
Celentano’s ban also applies to the takeaway sale of alcoholic and spirit drinks and in any container from 8pm to 6am the following day, by managers of public establishments and commercial or artisanal establishments in private or public areas, including points of sale with vending machines.
The ban on alcohol will be valid for four months, including the neighboring bus lines and with the provision, for anyone who evades it, of a fine of 500 euros. All the main streets were involved: from Via Romagnoli to Piazza Mentana, from Via Curtatone to Via Grassi, passing through Vi Corridoni, Via Giulio Cesare, Via Pasubio, Via Emanuele Filiberto etc.
The provision, as stated, was also aimed at preserving an area which is an area of particular historical urban interest and is included in the “Places of the FAI heart”. It couldn’t be otherwise, explains the rationale of the ordinance, given the continuous “reports and complaints complaining about situations of disturbance of public peace at night and degradation of urban decorum”. Not to mention “the interventions of the Local Police that have taken place in the last period, aimed at preventing such deplorable phenomena of urban degradation, through scheduled night services, following which a detailed mapping of commercial activities was drawn up”.
