Bergamo incinerator, even the Province says no to the project

Another one arrives negative opinion for the Bergamo incinerator project, proposed by Montello Spa. A plant which, if built, would become the largest in Italy in terms of power. After the no of 41 local mayors, representing around 200 thousand citizens, who underlined the strong environmental, health and economic critical issues, it is the provincial council to unanimously express its opposition to the project.

In a letter sent to the Province, Ats, Lombardy Region, Arpa and the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy at the end of February, the mayors wrote: “We already tolerate quarries, an airport, two waste treatment plants, asphalt production plants” . A new incinerator “in one of the most inhabited and polluted areas in Italy It seems devastating to us from an environmental point of view.” Furthermore, data in hand, the plant would be useless: “Lombardy produces 4,782,257 tons of waste every year. It differentiates 73% (in the province of Bergamo 78%)”.

After the letter, on Wednesday 15 May, the Province also responded with a no, which certainly has even greater relevance for a project that risks foundering even before starting.

Specifically we are talking about a 154 MW power plantconsisting of a reception and storage pit for waste from waste recovery platforms, two combustion linestwo fume treatment lines, a back-up combustion line, a closed area of storage of bottom ash from combustionan energy recovery section (electrical and thermal), an exhausted air delivery system, two warehouses functional to the system, auxiliary services, offices and service rooms (changing rooms, bathrooms, canteen).
