The Cagliari DDA closed the Monte Nuovo investigation which last September had led 13 people to prison, including the former regional councilor for Agriculture Gabriella Murgia and the former head physician Tomaso Cocco (later released from prison), and 18 under house arrest, revealing alleged connections between white collar workers and representatives of Sardinian crime.
The prosecutor Emanuele Secci confirmed the claims of the mafia association and the secret one, despite the fact that the Review Court had excluded them. Both were also sent to the rector of Sassari Gavino Mariotti, centre-right mayoral candidate in Sassari, whose name appeared in the precautionary custody order last September. The number of suspects increased from 31 to 33.
