The Province of Crotone is facing the threat of suspension of water supply by Congesi, the consortium responsible for water management.

If the Province does not pay off an outstanding debt, the water supply will be interrupted starting from May 20th. This extreme move was announced after the Province accumulated a debt of over 660,000 euros related to its water bill.

Claudio Liotti, president of the Board of Directors of Congesi, sent the communication to the Province yesterday, highlighting the urgency and the need to intervene promptly.

The situation became critical when Congesi reduced the supply last April 16 due to the provincial body’s arrears. However, despite the payment notice, the Province has not yet paid the debt, thus putting the water supply for its building at risk.

The sum in question represents a considerable amount, calculated on the basis of a consumption of over 31,000 cubic meters of water. It is likely that, as time passes, this figure will increase further, making the Province’s financial situation even more precarious.

The suspension of the water supply would have serious consequences, not only from a practical point of view, but also from a hygienic and health point of view. Without access to drinking water, the provincial headquarters building could be off limits, putting the health and safety of those who work there at risk.
