the prosecutor ‘blocks’ the funeral and orders an autopsy

Rome prosecutors are investigating for negligent personal injury in relation to the case of Mariusz Marian Sodkiewicz, a 62-year-old former Rai employee who died due to pleural mesothelioma, a form of cancer due to exposure to asbestos during his long service in the Roman headquarters of the public broadcaster. The Capitoline magistrates ordered the suspension of the funeral to carry out an autopsy on Sodkiewicz’s body.
The complaint that the man had presented in Piazzale Clodio dates back to March. In recent weeks – after Franco Di Mare’s interview – he had gathered courage and had also denounced the company, linking his illness to exposure to asbestos which had occurred for years in the Rai headquarters in Rome where he had worked.

In relation to the death of the 62-year-old, the public prosecutor Fabio Santoni also ordered an autopsy on the body of the former employee of the radio and television company, postponing the funeral which was scheduled for the afternoon of Tuesday 14 May, in the church of Santa Maria della Neve in Penna in Teverina, where the 62-year-old lived, known to all as “Mario the Pole”, also for his appreciated activity as a ceramic artisan.
