Today one of the players who made the history of Catanzaro turns 50.

The long career of a silent and lethal center forward, loved by every square that welcomed him, Giorgio Corona was one of the strongest provincial attackers of the new millennium.

He scored 258 goals between amateur and professional championships. In Serie A he had just thirty-one appearances and seven goals (with a very respectable average of 0.37 goals per 90 minutes), but there is no fan who experienced the football of those years who cannot recognize him. Ask about Giorgio Corona and anyone will answer by listing his peculiar traits, even before the goals: the long, often damp hair, the serious look and, above all, the rolled up shorts.

Purchased from Catanzaro in the summer of 2003, with 19 goals scored, in his first appearance in Serie C1, he surpassed the previous Giallorossi record of seasonal goals set by Massimo Palanca, thus contributing to the promotion to Serie B, achieved by the club after fourteen years. With the Eagles in three seasons he collected 109 appearances and 46 goals.

On 16 May 2004, on the very day he turned 30, on the neutral pitch in Ascoli, Corona scored the 2-1 goal with which Catanzaro beat Chieti and earned direct promotion to Serie B: the first joy for the fans Giallorossi since relegation to C1 in 1990.

You are always in our hearts: Happy Birthday King George!!!
