For now only the holder of the pink jersey and the one of the cyclamen jersey have been able to win more than one stage. Pogacar is at three, Milan two: today in Fano they could find the opportunity to even the score. Here are the details of stage number 12 of the Giro d’Italia.

Path

After the stage arrived in Prati di Tivo and yesterday’s stage in Francavilla al Mare, today we race again in Abruzzo (for a handful of kilometres). Departure is scheduled for Martinsicurothe very last city before entering the territory of the Marche. Port of Ascoli, the southernmost town in the Marche region, is in fact the second location of the stage. Then the group will cycle north passing through San Benedetto del Tronto, Grottammare, Porto San Giorgio, Porto Sant’Elpidio And Civitanova Marche. In short, all those places that in less than a month will be full of tourists who want to enjoy the sea.

Once they arrive in Civitanova Marche they will leave the coast for a while and go inland going up to Civitanova Alta (2.8 kilometers at 4.7%), Montecorsaro And Montelupone (1.9 kilometers at 5.8%). Shortly afterwards they will find the little gem that it is Recanati and there they will cross the flying finish line after 2300 meters at 8%. We will then continue Castelfidardo (2.3 kilometers at 3.6%), Osimo with its Gpm (7 kilometers at 2.3%), Villa San Paterniano (1200 meters at 7.5%). They will get off at Dust it’s at Jesi they will start to rise again towards the Gpm of Monsano (4.2 kilometers at 4%) and towards that of Ostra (1 kilometer at 8.8%). TO Repeat, where the Intergiro finish line will be, will climb for 2.2 kilometers at 4.2%. There will be the tearing of Mondolfo (1200 meters at 5.1%) then they will get closer to the sea passing through San Costanzo. About 10 kilometers from the arrival of Fano they will still have 1200 meters at 9.2% a Mount Jupiter. The arrival is rather structured around the historic center of Fano where they will skirt the walls.

Favorites

Today’s stage, as it is made altimetrically, can favor those riders who stick to the short and explosive climbs or those riders who have the ability to enter the right breakaway and resist the larger group that tries to close the gap. As for sprinters, beware Jonathan Milan (Lidl Trek). Also watch out for Enrico Zanoncello (VF Group-Bardiani CSF-Faizanè) who, being very fast, could be the escape man who arrives with a small group and wins the sprint. The situation could also arise in which on the last stretch some athlete extends just to reach the finish line in Fano: whether it is Filippo Ganna (Ineos Grenadiers)?
