Viterbo is the capital city of Lazio which is last in terms of the total amount of administrative fines collected. Bassano in Teverina, on the other hand, is the second municipality in Lazio under 3,500 inhabitants in terms of total collections with 840 thousand euros in fines. This is the outcome of the study carried out by Facile.it on Siope data. In 2023 and until 15 February 2024 Palazzo dei Priori collected 220,467 euros in proceeds from fines and penalties for violations of the highway code against families. The average revenue for the number of residents is just 3 euros per person. These are completely negligible numbers even compared to those of the other capital cities in addition to Rome, which is obviously first in an absolute sense for volume of takings in 2023 equal to 138,784,861 euros which, per capita, are equal to 50 euros (2nd regional post). The first province in terms of volume of revenue per capita in Lazio is Rieti with 166 euros, followed by Rome (50 euros), Frosinone (14 euros), Latina (11 euros) and Viterbo (3 euros). In terms of total revenue, after Rome, there is Rieti with 7,525,727 euros, followed by Latina (1,350,082 euros), Frosinone (612,227 euros) and Viterbo (220,467 euros).
Limiting the analysis to Lazio municipalities with fewer than 3,500 residents, Sperlonga, in the province of Latina, comes in first place, which has 3,062 inhabitants and, in 2023, collected over 1.4 million euros in traffic fines. Followed on the podium are Bassano in Teverina which, against 1,267 inhabitants, collected more than 840 thousand euros in fines in 2023, and Poggio San Lorenzo (RI) (546 inhabitants, 415 euros). Bassano in Teverina, second among Lazio municipalities under 3,500 inhabitants, has a per capita average of around 663 euros per person for 1,267 residents.
