Michele comes of age and, thanks to the sacrifices of his father Antonio, who in the meantime moved permanently to Andria, opens his first shop, which he gives the name “Il basket of delights”, a commercial name that will accompany him throughout his life.
The objective of Michele first and then also of his partner, Mrs. Michela Grillo, who has supported him in his commercial activity since his marriage, has always been to buy selected fruit and sell the best the market can offer, both the local one and the wholesale one, such as the fruit and vegetable market of Andria, in via Barletta where Michele is at home.
Little by little, step by step, the fruit and vegetable sales activity takes off and Michele becomes a point of reference not only for the Stadio-via Maraldo district where his shop is located, but also for customers who come from other parts of the city to buy his goods.
Between a greeting and a joke, Michele and Michela are there to offer advice and stock up on the best the season offers.
After long years, five decades in the making, in recent days they have managed to renovate their shop, moving to larger premises in via Maraldo on the corner of via Parigi.
When Don Vincenzo Chieppa, parish priest of the Church of San Paolo Apostolo, arrived for the awaited blessing of the new premises, Michele wanted to focus on precise concepts, which are fundamental for people who have made work their essence of life, especially now that his son, Antonio, has decided to attend hotel school to qualify as a chef.
“In this place, as in everything we have always done, we have lavished love and sacrifice. I owe a lot of this success to my wife Michela, for the dedication she has been able to demonstrate. Our life has been full of sacrifice but it has been lived in happiness, despite ups and downs. Only by being united will we be able to face the future.
