Few staff at Ragusa prison, unions meet Prefect

It took place today, at the request of Confederation of Penitentiary Unions, a meeting to discuss what Con.Si.Pe defines as a “very serious shortage of staff in the Ragusa prison”.

The union leaders met the Prefect in the presence of the Director, the Commander and a delegation of prison police.

The national secretary Davide Scaduto raised the cry of alarm about the very serious situation, arguing the serious risk looming over the Ragusa prison, namely that of failing to ensure the safety of the institution and of not being able to guarantee holidays to prison police staff. The regional deputy secretary Danilo Pluchino was also present.

“In fact, 48 units are employed every day, reducing the number of service positions to a minimum,” the trade unionists write, “and the entire workforce present in the institute numbers 54. From 2018 to today, the workforce has dropped from 120 units to 95. We hope for an intervention from the institutions, which in the past have often promised staff. Promises that, until now, have remained just words.”
