Coldiretti Puglia: wild boars cause 30 million euros of damage

According to Coldiretti, wild boars are causing damage in Puglia over 30 million euros. After yet another dangerous invasion of a herd of wild boars in the countryside of Altamura, near the Alta Murgia National Park, the association renews its appeal for a Regional Extraordinary Plan for the management of wild animals.

Wild boars are not the only ones causing problems: wolves, feral dogs, starlings, hares, cormorants, green parrots and the blue crab have a devastating impact on crops, farmed fauna and aquaculture facilities. “It is necessary to urgently intervene to stop the proliferation of wild animals and allow farmers to defend their lands,” declares Alfonso Cavallo, president of Coldiretti Puglia.

With a wild boar population estimated at 250,000 copies, the situation has become critical not only in the countryside but also in urban centres. Coldiretti Puglia reports a growing concern for the safety of peoplewith packs venturing into cities, causing road accidents, attacking domestic animals and destroying crops.
