Trieste, 15 May – Olivia Laing will be a Trieste at the Festival”Science and Comma” Tomorrow, Thursday 16 May. The British writer and journalist will speak with Paolo Giordano And Chiara Valerio at an event entitled “Finding freedom through writing”.

Laing is an author and literary critic, a contributor to The Guardian and The Observer and known for the 2018 bestseller “The Lonely City” (“City alone”, published by Il Saggiatore); his latest novel”The Garden Against Time” (“The garden against time”, Il Saggiatore) was released last February. For her, writing is a “path to the truth”, “a feeling of satisfied exhaustion”, an art form that is impossible to separate from the real world. She will talk about this with Valerio, Italian author and literary critic, collaborator of Repubblica and Vanity Fair, who recently published her latest book, “Who says and who is silent” (Sellerio Editore). For Valerio, writing is a form of freedom “that resembles democracy: rights and duties to all be free in the same way and not linger in privileges”. Thus “Scienza e Comma” will host a “new comparisonunique and fiercely unpredictable between two exceptional writers and intellectuals” which will start from their most recent works to head towards “territories of all freedom”.

Artistic director of the festival, also Giordano, famous for “The solitude of prime numbers” (Mondadori) with which she won the Premio Strega in 2008, will participate in the dialogue with the authors.

“Scienza e Comma” is an event of SISSA Interdisciplinary Laboratory directed by Andrea Gambassi, which will take place in Trieste starting tomorrow until May 21st. The theme of this edition is diversity. Other guests will include the mathematician Daniel Andler, professor at the Sorbonne in Paris, who will talk about “artificial and human intelligence”; the psychotherapist Stefania Andreoli, in dialogue with Giordano on the topic of love “in the era of narcissism”; it’s still Cecilia Sala, Gabriella Greison, Andrea Principeand many others.
