In the afternoons and evenings, there will be a succession of meetings on environmental and social sustainability, workshops, concerts, poetry and photography around the culture of the sea in Su Siccu, in the headquarters of the Ichnusa rowers and on the boats of the Cagliari Sailing Charter.

«Built around the theme Storm – declares the creator of the festival Giulia Clarkson – the 2024 edition reflects on the power of nature which suddenly bursts into our lives, triggering internal and external emergencies, which call for all our abilities, skills and talents or they force us to wait. A metaphor that also enhances the value of transformation: just like the sea, life unfolds in the triumph of a continuous metamorphosis, in which the search for stability is often overwhelmed by the unpredictability of events which time, which shares with the storm the semantic root often presents the bill.”

Talking about the sea also means reflecting on one of the greatest tragedies of our times: sea migrations and shipwrecks that make the Mediterranean the grave of a very high number of victims of all ages. Vivi il Mare proposes, around this social storm, more meetings with SOS Méditerranée and its president, Abdelfetah Mohamed. An international maritime and humanitarian organization that has saved more than 37,000 people in the central Mediterranean, where it is estimated that more than 20,000 people have disappeared since 2014, SOS Méditerranée will open the festival Thursday 23 May at the Buccari Nautical Institute with a meeting reserved for students of the Cagliari school.

The inauguration of the exhibition is open to the publicA look at the sea”, in the afternoon of Thursday 23 at 7.00 pm in Su Siccu, which brings together the photographs taken during the sea missions of the Aquarius ships and the current and faster Ocean Viking, testifying to life and work on board. With the Sos exhibition, the multidisciplinary performance “Interrupted landscapes” curated by Carovana SMI, to generate conscious and creative experiences on the places crossed. A free mix of maps drawn on the journeys that are made and on the places that people arrive with in transit. With the landscape architect Luigi Usai, and the artists of the Accademia del Tempo: Mattia Campagnola (Nippon), Fatima Dakik, Luca Marcia, Andrea Melis, Mahomed Gaye Chidid Concept and directed by Ornella D’Agostino. Lyrics and Music: Luigi Usai, Luca Marcia, Andrea Melis, Fatima Dakik, Mahomed Gaye Chidid. Music: Luca Marcia, Andrea Melis, Fatima Dakik.

In collaboration with the Library of the metropolitan city Emilio Lussu, and in its spaces in Monte Claro, Friday 24th at 10.30am Abdelfetah Mohamed, author of two books “The Black Storks. Hidma. My escape” and “The roots of the dunes”, talks with the journalist and writer Maria Francesca Chiappe on “Cross the Sea“. Born in the 1980s in a refugee camp in Sudan to an Eritrean family, for more than ten years in Italy, Mohamed decided to dedicate his life to those who, as happened to him, risk their lives crossing the sea. Cultural mediator by training and profession, activist for migrants’ rights and for rescue at sea, he has worked for the International Federation of the Red Cross, Emergency, Oxfam and on board the Ocean Viking of SOS Méditerranée.

37 thousand lives” is the title of Abdelfetah Mohamed’s meeting with the Vivi il Mare public which will be held on board one of the Cagliari Sailing Charter boats in Su Siccu, on the afternoon of Friday 24that 6.00 pm.

Dedicated to the rebel poet Alfonsina Storni, spoken word artist and legendary performer in Argentina and throughout South America, who had a very close relationship with the sea, until her death (she committed suicide, suffering from cancer, on 25 October 1938 in the Mar de Plata). Her audacity in the face of the great questions of modernity, her stormy reflections on her life and her poetic-experimental ventures are the basis of the show with the same title as the poignant song made famous by Mercedes Sosa. The artists Matteo Sau, Marta Laganà and Barbara Usai will perform.

Saturday 24th after the morning’s activities at sea, the highly sought-after laboratory will take place at 5pm Knots and winds by the federal instructor Pee Bag. The last day of the festival, Sunday 25thopens with a testimony that links the ocean, marine life and navigation: in “Lives in the ocean” the skipper Francesco Farci and the marine ecologist Arianna Liconti they will talk about their experience of navigation and monitoring of the seas.
