Presented in competition last September at Future Film Festival of Bologna et al Sardinia Film Festival of Alghero (two crucial events for Italian animated cinema), the animated feature film “Metamorphosis”, written and directed by the Apulian director Michele Fasanowill be in Italian cinemas starting from tomorrow, Thursday 16 May. In Puglia it will be scheduled for a week at Ciaky from Bariat the City of Cinema of Foggia and at the cinema Vignola of Polignano a Mare, while al DB Dessai of Lecce only on 18 and 19 May.
Inspired by «The Conference of the Birds” Of Farid al-Din ‘Attar (a 13th century Persian poet and mystic), the film tells of a flock of birds that travel in the wake of Hoopoe, towards the Mountain of Kafh, home of King Simourgh, who promises to give answers to all their questions. Between dream and reality, the birds cross the 7 Valleys. Most get lost along the way, except for the 4 of them who will live the experience of as many real human characters: Monika (Albania), Abdurrahman (Turkey), Jihad (Syria) and Susan (Israel). Characters very different from each other, in age, gender, culture and religion, territory of origin and mythologies, geographical landscapes and historical and psychological background, against the backdrop of the dramas of the Eastern Mediterranean.
For the circumstances of life, but on the basis of their own different orthodoxy, each of them lives simultaneously in two or more religions. Not only “next to”, in an attitude of tolerance, but “inhabiting more than one at the same time”. Animated cinema, through metaphor, allows us to give visibility both to their spiritual commonality, in their absolute cultural difference, and to the antiquity of the wisdom tradition in which this commonality is inscribed: the religion of Love. In the end, only 6 birds will have the secret revealed: to the Hoopoe, who guides them (but she too will have to learn something first); to the 4 who will have lived the experience of love of those human characters; more than a sixth, the most unlikely of all.
