Asl Caserta, photography course for children of the Mental Health Department

Among the prevention projects dedicated to young people, aimed at intervening early on the various forms of increasingly widespread distress, the Mental Health Department of the ASL of Caserta, directed by Dr. Gaetano De Mattia, recently promoted a photography competition entitled “Low Health Point”, inspired by Mr. Rain’s well-known song “Supereroi”, on the theme of adolescent mental illness. Young people from Caserta and its province participated in the competition, also with the collaboration of the local high schools, sending numerous photos of themselves, demonstrating how serious and current the problem is. Using the photographic image as a means of expressing their interiority, they represented the world as their eyes see it, opening themselves up in some way to communication with adults and, through a snapshot, they managed to communicate much more effectively what is often they can’t say with words: the request for help. In the opinion of the organizers, it was difficult to make a selection, because there were so many significant photos sent by the participants, some of notable technical quality. For this reason, they have decided to exhibit them all within the “Low health point” Photographic Exhibition which will be inaugurated on Thursday 16 May at 4.30 pm at the headquarters of UOSM 12 and DSM in via Roma n.155, Caserta. Given the interest aroused by the Competition, the Photographic Catalog of the Exhibition will also be printed, as a tangible testimony of the experience. “Photography helps us observe the way we approach not only the world and relationships, but also our self-awareness,” says the Director of the Mental Health Department, Dr. Gaetano De Mattia, “The image represents a reminder of what is there, of what we are, but also a spotlight on what we could be in our becoming. It fixes for an instant the path taken and simultaneously enters into movement, as a vital element which, in full harmony with what characterizes existence, maintains the propensity to change. I invite all citizens to visit the exhibition”, continues the Director, “which will remain open to the public until May 18th in our headquarters”. Furthermore, since the Exhibition itself was conceived as a Traveling Exhibition, it will be proposed again in the coming months within the territory of the ASL CE, at schools, institutions, associations that request it, offering a further opportunity to “focus” on the youth universe and to share impressions on the topic of education for the psychological well-being of the new generations.
