Foundation stone for the commercial port

FIUMICINO – The laying of the first stone for what is one of the city’s most awaited works: the commercial port is becoming reality: with an investment of 55 million euros, the commercial port will allow the safety of Fiumicino’s fishing fleet, too often victim of the critical issues of the canal port (many fishing boats and other boats moored there, which then sank), but not only that.

The start of the works was inaugurated in the presence of the president of the Port System Authority of the Central and Northern Tyrrhenian Sea, Pino Musolino, the mayor Mario Baccini, the minister for infrastructure and transport Matteo Salvini, the vice-president of the Lazio Region Roberta Angelilli and local institutions, civil and military authorities.

«Today we have the opportunity to start a fundamental work», these are the words of Pino Musolino, president of the Port System Authority of the Central Northern Tyrrhenian Sea, who spoke of “A work that has waited over twenty years to come to fruition light, which the city of Fiumicino requested because it will allow a worthy accommodation to be given to the first fishing fleet in Lazio, it will free up new energy, jobs, fishing tourism, tourism.

But it will allow us to relocate a couple of construction sites that are located in the city centre, as requested by the mayor, and we will do so.”

The way this port was built, however, would represent something unique: «I would like to underline – added Musolino – that this is the first commercial port to start from scratch in the last 40 years.

It must, therefore, be a national pride. Furthermore, this port was dredged, which is difficult to do in Italy. Now we will fix an unseemly situation, but we will also fix the supply of kerosene for the airport.

So not only a port, but also an infrastructure serving the airport.”

«We have finally started a strategic work not only for Fiumicino, but for the whole of Lazio – declared Mayor Baccini – With the relocation of the shipyards, we will free the canal port which has caused so many problems for our fishing boats. This is a work that comes from very far away, which the city has asked for, its successive administrations have asked for precisely to give strength to the input coming from Minister Salvini. A first initiative to give our coastline back the organizational, technical and operational splendor it deserves. This is an important work in progress: we are taking steps to resolve the problems of state maritime and housing property. Our city is in full development.”

«A construction site that opens is a powerful image of development, of change, of those who want to look ahead with their heads held high and at an important development, not only for Fiumicino – added the vice-president of the Lazio Region Angelilli -. We are talking about a path of strategic development for the entire Lazio Region and Italy.

We were in Civitavecchia and the objective is to create a network of central infrastructures in the Scandinavian-Mediterranean corridor. Let us remember that in Lazio the blue economy has over 35 thousand active companies and a law for the blue economy will soon become reality”.
