“I had been thinking about composing an anthem dedicated to our city for a long time and I wanted to do it without haste, waiting for the right inspirations. When every now and then some catchy tune popped into my head, I took notes and put it aside. Finally, just a few adjustments here and there and in recent days I have finally completed the composition of the music and the lyrics”.
They are the words of Ferdinando Mongellia musician from Sanremo who decided to write an anthem for his city. “I then concentrated – goes on – on the style of musical arrangement to be adopted. The classical one, à la ‘Va pensiero’ so to speak, seemed the most suitable. But in truth, thinking about the queen city of Italian pop music, this directed me to something more modern inspired by the festival genre. This is how my anthem for Sanremo was born which I entitled ‘Sanremo dreams and emotions’. And who could sing the Sanremo anthem if not the best Sanremo singers? It seemed like a good idea to me and so I just needed to make a few phone calls to immediately receive their approval with great enthusiasm.”
They will be in everything 25 singers who will participate in this initiative, which is precise, completely non-profit. Here is the list, provisional still being updated: Georgia Mos, Paolo Rossi, Federica Kiki, Alessia Cava, Alex Penna, Raffaella Mellace, Manuela Gaslini, Davide Lambiase, Marida Semiglia, Gaetano Labalestra, Alessia Rinaldo, Patrizia Fanfani, Emilia Latella, Andrea Mangiameli, Alessandro Rapanà, Barbara Lacchetta, Leandro Allegri, Matteo Lavagna, Mauro Giammarino, Selena Gaslini. To these are also added the musicians Stefano Foglia on drums and Fulvio Gaslini on bass.
There is always much work behind the scenes to get things done well and registration of all participants is currently still underway, it will still take some time. It is not yet known whether this anthem will be made official, although Mongelli would like it and, for this reason, winks at Bellevue Palace. As the saying goes, to stay on the theme of Sanremo flowers ‘If they are roses they will bloom’.
“I can boast in the meantime – ends the Matutian musician – that those who listened to it gave me many compliments. It was a great desire of mine to pay homage to my city where I have lived practically forever and so we joined forces and now we can’t wait to finish the work to make it public. So… stay tuned!”
