The labor market in Veneto continues to show positive signs in the first four months of 2024. According to theMay 2024 Compass infographicThe overall balance is +44,600 employee positionswith a clear prevalence of fixed-term contracts (30,800), followed by those with permanent contracts (12,800) and apprenticeships (1,000).

Despite a slight decline in total hiring, with a 1% drop in terminations and a 16% reduction in resignations, the month of April recorded an increase of 16,700 jobs. The growth in part-time contracts is significant, which now represent 34% of total hires, with a greater incidence among women (49%).

Analyzing the data at the provincial level, all the provinces show a positive balance in the January-April period, except Belluno which is affected by the closure of the winter season with a loss of 3,000 places. In particular, Venice leads the growth with +19,700 job positions, while Vicenza and Padua show a positive balance but decreasing compared to 2023, with +2,600 and +4,400 new jobs respectively. Moderate growth also for Treviso (+3,200) and Rovigo (+2,400). The increase in demand for work in Belluno was notable (+8%), in contrast to the trend in Venice (-4%) and Vicenza (-3%).

From a sectoral point of view, industry and agriculture show positive balances, with +6,800 and +6,100 positions respectively, despite a reduction compared to 2023. The tertiary sector confirms its strength with +31,700 new jobs. THowever, the metalworking sector and some Made in Italy sectors, such as textiles, clothing and footwear, are showing signs of difficulty with a decline in hiring and a loss of jobs. Construction, however, continues to grow with +3,300 job positions and a 7% increase in hiring. Tourism remains the driving force in services, although with a slightly lower budget than the previous year.

On the unemployment front, 41,000 new entries into unemployment were recorded in the first four months of 2024with an increase of 2% compared to 2023. This increase is mainly due to the increase in declarations of immediate availability issued by the unemployed, which total 6,200, marking an increase of 2,200 compared to the first quarter of 2023.
