Bari has a debt of 185 thousand euros: the Court partially writes it off

Breathing again after over 20 years of nightmare. This is what happened to a woman who saw the Court of Bari write off 94.4% of the debt she had contracted over the years to meet the needs of her family.

It all began in 1999, when the woman separated and left the marital home together with her two minor children. The woman finds herself in a critical economic situation, and she goes to live in a small house owned by her mother. But the bad news isn’t over, and shortly afterwards her youngest son is diagnosed with autism. The INPS check is not enough to cover treatment and assistance, and her ex-husband gives her just over 150 euros a month. The woman is forced to ask for personal loans to cover her expenses.

In 2009 she applied for a loan to purchase an investment house, but when the tenants stopped paying the rent, she was no longer able to pay the mortgage instalments. In 2018 the house ended up at auction, but too little was obtained from that sale to pay off everything and she found herself in debt of almost 185 thousand euros. It is impossible to repay such a sum while continuing to give a dignified life to her children. The case ends up in the Court of Bari, where the judge, after having verified that the eligibility requirements for accessing the procedures provided for by law 3 of 2012 and the crisis code were present, ordered the write-off of almost the entire sum, against of a repayment plan that was truly sustainable by the woman, who will pay €266 per month for the next three years.

Assisting her in the courtroom were specialists from Legge3.it, an organization founded by Gianmario Bertollo and Maria Sole Pavan.
