Catanzaro and Soverato establish themselves as destinations of excellence in the Italian sea: they maintain the prestigious blue flag title for 2024, while Tropea faces challenges and suspended expectations

Confirmation of the prestigious Blue Flag recognition for 2024 came in a solemn ceremony at the CNR in Rome, where the Foundation for Environmental Education (Fee), led by Claudio Mazza, rewarded the quality of Italian beaches and sea.

Catanzaro has once again distinguished itself as a Blue Flag City, with the deputy mayor Giusy Iemma proudly representing the Calabrian capital. “Winning this recognition, already obtained last year, was not at all simple“, said Iemma. “It is the result of a shared political commitment that demonstrates our commitment to preserving and enhancing our natural resources. This victory strengthens our determination to promote tourism and environmental protection.”

Soverato also retained its Blue Flag title for the eighth consecutive year. Mayor Daniele Vacca underlined the community’s constant commitment to environmental conservation and the quality of tourist services. “This reconfirmation rewards our teamwork and motivates us to continue on the path of growth and excellence“Vacca said.

Meanwhile, in Tropea, despite the challenges and controversies, the suspended mayor Nino Macrì expressed his best wishes for maintaining the Blue Flag title. “It is essential to protect and enhance this important recognition, the result of years of hard work“, declared Macrì. “We cannot allow our gains to be squandered.”

These awards not only celebrate the beauty of Italian beaches, but also highlight the importance of collaboration between local communities, institutions and tourism operators to preserve and enhance our natural heritage.
