A unified approach between animal, human and environmental health, creating a single National Health Agency. This is the proposal that the Abruzzo Region has put forward to the Ministry of Health, applying to host its headquarters at the Zooprophylactic Institute of Teramo. The announcement came this morning from the President of the Region, Marco Marsilio, present in Rome, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Health, on the sidelines of the presentation event of the 3rd 2024 volume of the “One Health Journal” and the 3rd edition of the “One Health Award” entitled “The path of the National Health System towards single health”.
“This institute – explained Marsilio -, one of the first in Europe to invest in experimentation in this sector, is building a new cutting-edge headquarters equipped with advanced laboratories. A headquarters of excellence that will be able to largely carry out this function, should the Ministry decide to support this project”.
“The concept of single health, promoted by this event,” added Marsilio, “is a frontier that has been tested in Italy for some years, before other countries. As the Abruzzo Region, we have proven in the field the importance of a unified approach between animal, human and environmental health, thanks to the pioneering activity of the State Zooprophylactic Institute of Abruzzo and Molise. This institute – concluded President Marsilio – was also the promoter of a policy of cultural dissemination, through the publication of magazines and the organization of prizes dedicated to this topic”.
In addition to President Marsilio, the event was attended by: the Minister of Health, Orazio Schillaci; the Director General for Hygiene, Food Safety and Nutrition of the Ministry of Health, Ugo Della Marta; the General Director of the IZS of Abruzzo and Molise “G. Corporal”, Nicola D’Alterio; and the Honorable Guerino Testa, member of the One Health parliamentary intergroup.
