The Risk Monitoring Functional Center of the Lombardy region issued today, May 14, 2024a new weather alert code orange for hydrogeological and hydraulic risk, yellow for storm risk. For the second part of the day Today, May 14th,”a resumption of rainfall is expected first in the western sectors and subsequently also in the remaining regional territory. From the afternoon Scattered rainfall expected, locally in the form of showers and thunderstorms, tending to become widespread in the evening in the western sectors, strong and persistent between the high plains and the Pre-Alps“.

Between the night and the morning of tomorrow May 15thModerate rainfall is expected throughout Lombardy, including heavy rainfall on the north-western plain and nearby sectors of the Pre-Alps. In the afternoon-evening the precipitation will tend to become scattered, but in conjunction with a greater probability of local showers or thunderstorms, especially on the plains. Thunderstorms will be possible, albeit in a context of Low or Very Low probability of strong thunderstorms, mainly in the afternoon and evening“.

The weather warning bulletin for Lombardy highlights that “between the evening of Tuesday 14/05 and the night of Wednesday 15/05 the regeneration and the persistence from the rainfall, with a currently more probable scenario that places this situation between the Varesine Lakes and Prealps areas and the Hydraulic Hub of Milan (especially on the border with Piedmont), but the involvement of the Lario and Western Prealps area and marginally the central plain. Possible local accumulations over 12 hours of up to 100-140 mm are reported on lakes and the Varese Prealps and up to 80-100 mm between Lario and the western Prealps and the Milan Hydraulic Hub. Reinforcement winds are expected on the plain and on the Western Prealps, with possible gusts of up to 40-50 km/h in the plains and up to 50-60 km/h on the exposed sectors of the Pre-Alps“.
