THE EAGLE – Saturday 11 May the volunteers of New Acropolis they celebrated the World Earth Daywith a slight delay due to the bad weather of recent weeks, in the green setting of Castle Park. This year’s theme: “Towards unity through diversity” wanted to highlight how diversity in nature is a source of growth, and that being able to combine differences to achieve a common good is a challenge that human beings can also overcome, learning from the planet.
Throughout the afternoon, citizens were able to observe the exhibition set up by the association, entitled “The myths of Gaea”, which illustrated how different peoples and civilizations of the past loved and respected the Earth, considering it a living and generous being.
Those present enthusiastically participated in two moments of celebration, performing the traditional music to the rhythm “braid dance” dedicated to the Earth and witnessing theraising a paper hot air ballooncreated and decorated by volunteers, which rose high into the L’Aquila sky!
Many of them then wanted to support the volunteers in an intervention ecological cleaning of the parkcollecting 20 kg of waste abandoned in one of the most loved green areas of the city.
At the end of the day, a meeting was held historical-naturalistic walk inside the park, analyzing the history of the sixteenth-century Castle but also the characteristics of the many species of trees that surround it.
In the meantime, there were many children who chose to stop at the gazebo set up just for them, to have fun with some Eco-themed games made by volunteers with recycled materials. Even the older kids found an activity that suited them: one eco-themed treasure huntwith riddles and reflections on environmentally friendly lifestyles, inspired by Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agendaapproved by the UN General Assembly for the protection of the planet.
