A’unprecedented artistic-cultural offer and at the same time a further opportunity to enhance the historic centres. Two keys to understanding on the start of the preparatory courses of the Cosenza Conservatory in Corigliano-Rossano presented yesterday – Monday 13 May – at the Pometti Library in the Riforma Complex in the presence of the director of the Conservatory, Francesco Perriof the mayor Flavio Stasiof the deputy director of the Conservatory, Emanuele Cardiof the manager of the Programming department, Giovanni Soda and the deputy mayor Maria Salimbeni. During the event, the access methods and the aims of the initiative were illustrated.

“Our children must have a concrete possibility of high musical education, something that only a State Conservatory, such as the Giacomantonio of Cosenza, can legally do. Because public music conservatories are equipped with a system similar to that of universities, with the possibility of issuing equivalent qualifications”. So the director of the “Giacomantonio” of Cosenza, Francesco Perri.

“I am very happy to be here this morning for a whole series of reasons and not only of an emotional nature, but also programmatic and logistical – declared director Perri again – this is an area full of potential and we have been evaluating, for two years now, the possibility of structuring a branch of the Cosenza Conservatory in Corigliano-Rossano. For a series of reasons, starting from an objective data: our catchment area largely revolves around students who come from this area, and we understand the logistical and in some cases also economic difficulties in having to travel to Cosenza to follow the courses” .

“Then there is an “artistic” motivation which is to give more kids the chance to make music a profession with qualifying qualifications that only a state conservatory can issue. An opportunity that is not so obvious. Our conservatory has something like 1000 students, 120 permanent teachers and more or less the same number on contract. We have active protocols with European universities and conservatories. We have the Schola Cantorum, the Brutia orchestra, courses for conducting and to become a sound engineer, in addition to all the traditional offerings”.

“There is a very strong artistic-cultural vitality that has developed in recent years that we also see in this area. We have therefore decided, in agreement with the municipal administration, to start with a sort of trial, with preparatory courses lasting three years and then we will clearly move on to the academic aspect. I am convinced that, if the institutions collaborate, as in this case, we will achieve important results, creating a musical cultural presence of high value”.

The intervention of the deputy director of the Conservatory focused on the technical and practical details of the starting courses, Emanuele Cardi. “We have decided to offer a service to the territory, in this geographical area that gravitates around our Conservatory for non-academic courses. An offer aimed above all at young people who want to try and understand if this is their path”.

“The end point, the final point, will be the possible opening of a branch office – which involves a series of formal acts and evaluations also by the National University and Research Evaluation Agency, to achieve well-established quality standards. predefined – in the meantime let’s start by testing the ground, studying the response of the territory. Applications must be submitted peremptorily by May 31st as happens for any student who intends to enroll at the Cosenza Conservatory”.

“The registration procedure which is carried out online from our website is quite simple and takes place online on our website. In the month of July, by 15 July, the entrance exams to the Cosenza campus will be taken. On the basis of the entrance exams, all students of the preparatory courses will be asked by 31 August to express their preference whether to attend the preparatory courses in Corigliano-Rossano or in the Porta Piana headquarters”.

“Enrollments will take place by October 31st and from November 2nd the students who have opted for the Corigliano-Rossano location will no longer come to Cosenza for the preparatory courses but will be able to attend in this facility. Already in September we will have the pulse and the situation and we will understand how to divide the students of the preparatory courses between the two structures”.

“The objective of starting this experiment is to help a group of kids, almost always of school age, approach the study of music without having to face a journey that is demanding both in terms of time and money. This way they will be able to evaluate whether to continue with their academic studies in Cosenza”.

Giovanni Soda, manager of the planning department of the Municipality of Corigliano Rossano, illustrated how the Conservatory has started the procedure to obtain authorization from the Ministry of Culture to open the branch in Corigliano Rossano, which would be the first in the history of the city. working in stages and starting with the offer of preparatory courses.

Interested students must submit a regular application for admission by Friday 31 May 2024. For further information, you can consult the website: https://www.conservatoriocosenza.it/
