In Molise 500 deaf people, 200 thousand euros for the first accessibility projects

Yesterday the President of the Regional Council of Molise, Francesco Roberti, and the Regional Councilor for Social Policies, Gianluca Cefaratti, held a meeting with representatives of the National Deaf Organization (ENS). Also present were the President of the ENS, Angelo Raffaele Cagnazzo, the National Secretary Gino Salvatore, the regional President Antonio De Michele, and regional and provincial managers.

According to Roberti and Cefaratti’s data, in the Molise area there are between 400 and 500 deaf and hearing impaired people. The Molise Region is committed to maximizing collaboration with the national and regional ENS structures to best plan the use of the funds in order to achieve the set objectives.

The meeting saw a fruitful exchange of views on the needs of deaf and hard-of-hearing citizens in the region. “It was a fruitful meeting, during which we had the opportunity to discuss the needs of deaf and hard-of-hearing citizens to be addressed”, commented President Roberti and Councilor Cefaratti.

Already in the next few days, the Molise Region will undertake to work with the Ministry for Disabilities to obtain financing of around 200 thousand euros. These funds will be allocated to projects aimed at improving the quality of life of deaf and hard of hearing people in the region. One of the guidelines will be to overcome the existing communication gap, especially in the approach with the Public Administration.

“More resources are certainly needed and we will work on this, but we will also act to ensure maximum accessibility, in the region, for participation in public events, also verifying the availability and proven professionalism of sign language interpreters”, concluded Roberti and Cefaratti.

The purpose of the Molise Region is to increase accessibility and improve the lives of deaf and hard-of-hearing people through targeted projects.
