Falling birth rates and emigrations, the Salerno area loses 3 thousand residents

Residents are decreasing Salerno and province. And this time the “fault” is not to be attributed exclusively to the birth rate but also to migration. Because, in practice, especially young people don’t think they can build a future for themselves Salerno and, therefore, they prefer to emigrate elsewhere, both in Italy and abroad. Going into detail, based on the focus on the Istat census, in 2022 the province of Salerno, compared to 2021, will lose 3,426 residents.

The data

It only gets worse Naples (8,038) while even Caserta records an increase (+1,029 residents). In Campania 5,609,536 units were recorded, with a decrease of 14,884 residents: more than half of the population resides in the province of Naples (53.1%), which is close to three million inhabitants. Followed by the province of Salerno, which with over 1 million residents accounts for 18.9% of the region’s residents. The other three provinces are home to 28.0% of residents. A decrease, as highlighted by Istat, resulting from the sum of two negative balances, the natural one (-16,990 units) and the internal migratory one (–23,976), not compensated by the positive values of the migratory balance with foreign countries (+16,013 ) and statistical adjustment (+10.069).
