It returned to business onAirport Marconi by Bologna, after a two-hour stop, following a security alarm triggered in the early afternoon. The Polaria alarm was raised after a gun was reportedly found in a suitcase. But there would be a mistake. All flights scheduled from 2.30pm onwards have been postponed to late afternoon. Several arriving flights were instead diverted to other destinations.

What happened

According to what Adnkronos reports from investigative sources, the origin of everything, the investigators explain, is a new machine that recently arrived at the airport which, it is not yet clear whether human or technical errorwould have created an alert as there appeared to be an outline of a gun in a suitcase.

«Reading error»

At Bologna Marconi Airport, operations were “suspended from 3pm to 4.15pm”, because there was a “reading error” in a baggage check “caused by a new machine that recently arrived” at the Bologna airport. The Bologna Police Headquarters explains this regarding what happened in the afternoon. “Due to a human or technical error”, the police specifies, an alert was “created” because it seemed that, in a passenger’s luggage, “there was the outline of a gun”. However, nothing was found in the suitcase. Investigations by the border police are still underway. In the meantime, the airport’s operations have resumed: some departing flights were cancelled, others departed with heavy delays, while some arriving flights were diverted to other airports.
