Busto Arsizio launches the maxi urban regeneration, five Acof students win the logo competition

The official logo dedicated to an excellent urban planning project, which aims to revolutionize a part of the city of Busto Arsizio, bears the signature of ACOF Olga Fiorini. Five final year students of the Technical Institute of Graphics and Communication (they are Filippo Galli, Luca Campanelli, Samuele Menabò, Alessia Tremamunno and Mattia Sansò) were in fact awarded the first prize in the competition organized to develop an eye-catching brand for the initiative promoted by the municipal administration. And here comes yet another satisfaction for the school in via Varzi directed by Mauro and Cinzia Ghisellini.

The students’ task was to proceed with the conception, design and creation of three distinct but coordinated logos to be combined with the regeneration project called “Urban Threads”. Specifically, this is the gigantic intervention that will concern Piazzale Piemonte, better known as the market square of Busto Arsizio, where by 2027 there will be an overall reorganization of the spaces in the name of sociality and sustainability.

Starting from this starting point, in the tender notice it was clearly specified that the graphic symbols should highlight the objectives of this urban planning intervention, starting from the fact of uniting two parts of the territory currently divided at the level of that square, creating opportunities for social inclusion , involvement and active participation by young people, adults and older people. All this keeping in mind how the title of the project – “Fili Urbani” – represents a strong reference to the Bustese textile tradition and the ability of the territory to connect people. With a direct slogan: “Connecting energies, uniting the city”.

The ACOF students therefore carried out a morning of in-depth study and training directly in the town hall, in the Palazzo Gilardoni headquarters, and then divided themselves into creative teams under the supervision of the teachers Cinzia Rossi and Chiara Guaita. The result of their commitment were five different and appreciated solutions, submitted to the jury. Which, among the 22 projects entered in the competition, preferred the one presented by the five students of the Technical Institute of Graphics and Communication designed by Olga Fiorini.

In the motivation that now stands out on the official website of “Fili Urbani”, the philosophy and strategies of the winning entry are defined: «The brand, which together with the naming makes up the logo of the project, is the result of careful conceptual and visual researchwhich starting from the name “Fili Urbani” could represent the idea of union and connection through the evolution of the knot, or the ball, which with a long thread creates the symbolic forms of people, representation of the city community and its Union”.

Here, in detail, is the description and explanation of the result achieved: «The brand represents the three targets of the campaign; the elderly, the unemployed and the young, highlighted by three iconic colours. Blue was chosen for the elderly because it recalls an attitude of calm and stability; orange is combined with the unemployed because it symbolizes change; finally, green was chosen for young people because it indicates a state of balance, growth and the future.” A beautiful job, full of meaning, which has allowed ACOF to deserve yet another prestigious recognition in its history, proving itself once again to be an active part in the development of the territory in which the school has its headquarters.
