VENICE – Restaurants and hotels, but why not the beaches? “Beach Club of Italy” is the guide (Morellini publisher) which reviews the seaside establishments of the Bel Paese, assigning not “forks”, but “umbrellas” and draws up the ranking of the best structures overlooking the Adriatic, Ionian and Tyrrhenian Seas. Of the 225 bathing establishments registered in Italy, 14 are in Veneto. And tomorrow, in Mirano (6.30 pm, Spazio Castellantico 15) there will be an award ceremony for the best, divided by category.

THE VENETIAN PLANTS

The authors of this new guide are Andrea Guolo (professional journalist, Venetian of origins, signature of Vogue Italia, Milano Finanza, Gambero Rosso, creator and founder of italianwinetour.info, reference site for wine tourism) and Tiziana Di Masi (theatre actress , writer and pastry blogger/influencer with her alter ego La Signora in Dolce).

«The big question mark for the future of Italian beach clubs – said Guolo – is not the Bolkestein, but the erosion of the coast which is becoming a dramatic phenomenon in some Italian locations. If the beach disappears, the possibility of selling stations also disappears and, consequently, turnover drops”. Guolo and Di Masi toured Italy in the summer of 2023. They say: «The method we followed, where possible, was to visit the beach club as normal customers, incognito, evaluating all aspects of the structure (location, design, catering and beverage offer, service offer and mood), and then introducing ourselves and telling us what we were doing, why we were there”. Di Masi adds: «Certainly not all of the 225 bathing establishments contained in this guide are “historic”, in the literal sense of the term, nor frequented by regular customers. Many are brand new, many have changed management frequently, and many customers choose a beach club occasionally, even just for a day. But one thing is certain: those who choose to experience the sea inside an establishment, rather than on the free beach, do so not only for convenience, but also because they want a “beach club life”.

CRITICALITIES

«In the Veneto – the authors wrote – there is no real coastal road because the morphological complexity of the coast has, fortunately, prevented its creation». The note: «The day on the beach in Veneto starts early but tends to end just as early because, due to strict municipal provisions or simply due to entrepreneurial choice, only a minority of beach establishments have opted to extend their opening hours until deep night”.
Fourteen beach establishments have been selected: in Bibione Bi Tour Chiosco Blu and Seven Beach, in Caorle Baia Blu Beach, in Cavallino Treporti Fabiola Beach and Soleado Jambo 32 Beach, in Chioggia Sabbia e Sale and Stella Maris, in Eraclea Miramare, in Jesolo Oro Beach , in Rosolina Bagno Perla, Tamerici Dog and Tortuga Beach Club, in Venice Des Bains 1900 and Spiaggia Hotel Excesior. In Veneto only Des Bains and Excelsior have had the “three umbrellas”.
