With a post on his Facebook profile published at 4pm today 13 May, the Councilor for Security of the Municipality of Cerignola branded as “unspeakable and dangerous” the act perpetrated by criminals aboard a stolen car along state road 16 evening of Friday 10th.
According to what Cicolella reports, the police forces would have ordered a stolen car that was arriving at that precise moment to stop. However, the driver evaded the warning. During the inevitable chase, the criminals attempted to escape by taking the dangerous road the wrong way and rammed a second police car that arrived on the scene.
Two policemen – who risked being run over by the fleeing thieves – reported a prognosis of 15 days: “This reckless behavior constitutes an affront to public safety and compliance with the law. It is essential to emphasize the heroism and determination of law enforcement, who do not hesitate to put their lives on the line to protect our community. Our gratitude goes to them, who fight this scoundrel every day with courage and dedication. I personally contacted the manager of the local police station to ascertain the conditions of the two officers and to express solidarity and gratitude for everything they do for our community. We cannot tolerate such acts of violence and lawlessness; the scourge of car theft and vehicle cannibalization in our city must be addressed firmly and decisively”
