Vernice at the Cremona Conference Bookshop for “Beyond the Limits”, the book by Federica Rovelli -associate professor of musical philology and history of music at Musicology – dedicated to the piano sonatas from op. 90 on op. 111 by Ludvig van Beethoven, published by Libreria Musicale Italiana.

“Did we need another publication on the genius of Bonn?” asked Roberto Codazzi, who supported the scholar in her presentation, somewhat provocatively. And the answers were more than satisfactory. First of all, it is a work that groups together the last Sonatas in an original way, considering the op. 90 as a sort of “prelude” to the path that would then lead the maestro in ten years, from 1814 to 1823, to the writing of those five monuments that would change the history of music, namely the Sonatas from op. 101 on op. 111, passing through the shocking and revolutionary Hammerklavier, the op. 106.

The conversation then moved towards the analysis of the pianos of the time, another crucial chapter for understanding the development of Beethoven’s sonata path. Finally, a look at the future, that is, at what will be the next challenge for Federica Rovelli, who has revealed that she probably wants to orient her musicological research on Beethoven’s notebooks, a veritable mine of information that has only been minimally explored up to now.
