In Fiesso Umbertiano an evening dedicated to Giacomo Matteotti

FIESSO UMBERTIANO (Rovigo) On Friday 17 May at 9pm, in the “Falcone-Borsellino” room, the Municipality of Fiesso Umbertiano, in collaboration with the Municipality of Frassinelle Polesine, the Province of Rovigo and the Polesine Provincial Committee “Celebrazioni Matteotti 1924-2024”, organizes the evening with free entry “The wife and the professor: points of reference for Giacomo Matteotti”. The speaker of the evening will be the director Ferdinando De Laurentis.

On the centenary of the death of the socialist deputy Giacomo Matteotti, films from the time, readings, reflections and debate will also be offered on the reports held by the parliamentarian who firmly opposed fascism in the institutional halls, denouncing electoral fraud, blackmail and embezzlement, with the woman he loved and with Professor Emilio Zanella, historical figure of Polesine socialism. “Today more than ever it is important to celebrate this anniversary and remember what happened to Giacomo Matteotti – said the deputy mayor Michela Pellegrinelli – active councilor in many municipalities in our area, in particular municipal councilor in Fiesso Umbertiano. Ferdinando will accompany us on a “unique” and intimate journey into the life of this great man!”.

“I will do it using the tools of my trade – added De Laurentis – that is, through the language of the audiovisual which often touches the emotional chords even where the words do not have the same strength as the shots”.

“During the evening, the young people of the children’s municipal council – said councilor Loredana Romanato – will read important aspects of the relationship between the statesman from Polesine and his wife, a poet and novelist, a woman who dared to challenge Benito Mussolini”.

The evening is part of the events of the Polesine Provincial Committee program “Celebrazioni Matteotti 1924-2024” to commemorate the hundred years since the death of Giacomo Matteotti, and will be a further opportunity to understand and appreciate Matteotti’s extraordinary contribution to the history of our country.
